Welcome to College Grove Nursery

College Grove Nursery is a substantial, mature property, which has been carefully converted to provide its present accommodation. It sits within spacious grounds incorporating gardens, lawns and an all weather play area. Situated close to the M1 and M62 motorway network it is also convenient for Wakefield city centre, schools and major places of employment.

College Grove Nursery is one of the longest established nurseries in Wakefield having been open since 1994.

The current owner and manager Marie Harrison, took over the thriving business in 2006 and has continued to grow and build the nursery.

Our dedicated management team, through ongoing development and encouragement of their respective teams, ensures that the standards identified by OFSTED are delivered to provide complete childcare and education.

Learning and Development

It is our aim to give each unique child the opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.

Within the guidelines of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum our highly qualified and motivated staff provide a variety of activities and learning experiences covering the 3 prime and 4 specific areas of learning.

Baby Unit
(4-18 months)

Our baby unit is on the same floor but completely separate to our toddler unit. It comprises 2 rooms and a separate cot room. Our babies are cared for by consistent staff all of whom have lots of previous experiences working with babies. All babies have a key worker who begins to follow their learning journey and shares this progress with parents.

Toddler
(up to 36 months)

Children move over to the toddler group at approximately 18 months. The toddler unit has 2 main rooms allowing continuous access to all the 7 areas of the EYFS. The children have free-flow access through the 2 main rooms covering all areas of continuous provision. Throughout the unit the key worker continues to collate and record their achievements in their personal profile.

Pre-school
(3-4 years)

The pre-school unit is a large airy room which leads directly on to an all weather surface, allowing for continuous access to the outdoors as required. Staff continue to provide a varied curriculum to secure strong foundations for future learning. Their experiences are further enhance through personal tuition from 'Kidslingo' who provide French classes for this particular age group.

Nutrition

Healthy eating is happy eating.

At College Grove Nursery  we take healthy eating seriously and therefore we employ our own qualified and highly experienced Catering Manager. Karen has overall responsibility for the provision of all meals and snacks and has been part of the team since 1995. During this time she has encouraged children to eat a healthy, balanced diet.

As part of our ongoing promotion of healthy eating, we hold the highest ‘Food Hygiene Rating’ of 5 gained through the environmental health department. We are kept constantly up to date with all current issues, regarding healthy eating, by regularly accessing the internet and other medias. All staff have the basic food hygiene certificate and 2 staff members are qualified to level 2.

Food, using only fresh ingredients, is prepared on the premises. All children are catered for, including small babies and all special dietary requirements.

Our menus are based on a three week rota consisting of fish, chicken, red meat (excluding beef) and vegetarian dishes. The midday meal always includes at least three different types of fresh vegetables and a carbohydrate e.g. potato, rice, pasta or noodles. We take pride in the fact that all food is prepared and cooked fresh and processed or fried foods are not part of our diet. Children also take part in the preparation and cooking of certain foods e.g. making pizzas, baking and chopping vegetables. In addition to our varied menus we try to include ‘themed’ days such as Mexican, Indian or Italian. The children play a major role in the preparations for these days, which furthers their knowledge and understanding of different food types. Staff at College Grove Nursery are encouraged to provide a positive role model for the children by sampling the different foods and eating alongside the children at mealtimes.
